CitationClerk

Terms of service

These terms cover your use of CitationClerk. Plain English, no surprises. If you submit a brief through the site, you're agreeing to what's below. Questions: support@citationclerk.com.

What we do

CitationClerk reviews the citations and quotations in a legal brief against public sources and returns a per-citation report. Results are a research aid, not a substitute for human verification before filing.

CitationClerk is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Using it does not create an attorney-client relationship. The report is a research aid; responsibility for every citation rests with the lawyer who signs the brief.

Pricing and refunds

  • The first 3 briefs from a given customer are free. We collect a card on file but don't charge it.
  • Each subsequent brief is $20, charged at submission via Stripe Checkout.
  • If the pipeline fails to produce a report (pipeline error, timeout, anything that isn't a successful run), we automatically refund the charge. Refunds appear on your card within 5 to 10 business days depending on your bank.
  • If you'd like a refund for any other reason (e.g., the report wasn't useful), email support@citationclerk.com within 7 days and we'll process it.

What you agree to

  • You have the right to upload the brief. It's yours, your client's (with permission), a public filing, or otherwise something you're authorized to submit for review.
  • You won't upload PDFs you know to be malware, files designed to crash extraction tooling, or other abusive content.
  • You won't try to scrape, brute-force, or evade rate limits on the site or its underlying APIs.
  • Don't share the report link if you don't want others to see it. It's not easily guessable, but anyone with the link can open it.

No warranty

CitationClerk is provided "as is." We work hard to make the pipeline accurate, but it can miss things: typos in the brief, citations to unpublished orders, quirky parallel citations, or sources our retrieval can't reach. The report is meant to flag likely problems for you to investigate, not to replace your judgment. Before you file anything, verify the report's findings yourself.

We make no warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of CitationClerk is limited to what you've paid us in the prior 12 months. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including missed deadlines, sanctions, lost cases, or professional-responsibility consequences arising from reliance on a CitationClerk report. The tool is a research aid; the buck stops with whoever signs the brief.

Privacy

Briefs, reports, and submission records auto-delete after 30 days. Full details on the privacy page.

Termination

You can stop using CitationClerk anytime; there's no account to close. We can decline or terminate service to anyone for abusive use (see "What you agree to" above), and we'll refund any open charges if we do.

Changes

We may update these terms over time. Material changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date; significant changes will also be emailed to anyone who's submitted a brief in the prior 12 months.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and applicable federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
